Electronic data interchange (EDI)

We need a script that runs on our web server that will log into an FTP site and read a .csv file which contains the data to populate records on our database. Clients systems will automatically send a shipments status which will create the CSV file on the FTP. It is our duty to pull information from that FTP site in order to keep our database up-to-date without any user input from this specific transportation company.
1. Script is run on server every 10 minutes. (VB, PHP – Programming language that best suits the needs can be used.)
2. Any update on the FTP site would automatically be imported into our database.
I have not yet received a sample CSV so we wouldn’t know in what order is what we need to import but here is an example I just came up with so you can see what I mean.
So in this example let’s say that our Mexican client “Client” added new seals 5463 and 44784 on Friday last week. When the American company records the times of pickup and delivery for those two trailer seals and their system automatically shoots a status notification to the ftp server which turns it into a csv file. Our script would be checking this FTP just to see what information is available to update our database. (Position of the items if just an example.) Values include trailer number, seals, times of pickup, times of delivery so with this we should be able to identify the record in our database and be able to update it.
Let me know if you have any questions… as soon as I have the CSV I will forward it so we can start formulating it.
