Job Description

Magento-based Website Developer

Description:

Our furniture-leasing company is in the process of doing a major overhaul of our customer-facing website and associated back-end system. Our platform will be Magento Community Edition, and we will be using a responsive (mobile-friendly) commercial Magento template (http://www.rockettheme.com/magento-templates/graffito). A third-party developer is building/updating special module capabilities that form the foundation for much of the functionality. That third-party developer will install Magento and the template on a development server.

We need an experienced Magento developer who will be responsible for the tasks shown below. In addition to our current project, we want to establish a long-term relationship with the Magento developer, so that we can quickly make maintenance updates and potential functionality improvements when needed.

Because we will occasionally need to have real-time calls and chats with you, we need you to have your normal workday overlap ours as much as possible: We need you to be located in a timezone somewhere between California and Frankfurt.

Meeting our objectives will require a deep working knowledge of Magento, its software base (PHP, MySQL), and experience with commercially available Magento themes and templates.
Using graphic design work, photos, etc. provided by a third-party graphic designer, integrate the design into the template to produce the final layout and appearance.
Remove and/or rearrange existing template components, and add new components as necessary, to result in the new layout as designed.
Update CSS code, JavaScript, PHP, and other code as necessary.
Configure/modify the template as follows. Additional functional requirements may be added as we work through the front-end and back-end design and workflow:
Enable customer to request price quote on selected catalog items, and/or on leasing requirements stated in general terms, e.g., “I need a bedroom suite for 6 months”.
Implement pop-up and/or drop-down box(es) prompting for lease information: location, term, etc.
Integrate our VirtualSpirits virtual chat agent feature with the template.
Customer will not pay for the rental on the site. Instead, customer will “check out” from the Magento store by submitting a request for price quote, to which we will respond by email, and later invoice/bill manually.
Ensure the mobile version of the site is mobile-friendly.
Finalize the Magento product catalog, including product attributes, using a preliminary product catalog design provided by us. Ensure that the product attributes are defined so that product photos, description, pricing, etc. can be displayed appropriately. (A third-party contractor will load the product catalog.)
Configure the Magento customer CRM database per our specifications, to include standard customer information: name, email, contact details, etc.
Incorporate links, meta tags, keywords, page descriptions, etc. from current website to the new site pages, to ensure we retain our good SEO ranking.
Coordinate with our Google AdWords specialist to transfer current AdWords codes into the new site, and update URLs from the current campaigns.
Coordinate with the third-party Magento module developer to integrate your work with his, to be ready for functional testing. You will be provided FTP access to the development server.
Assist the third-party Magento module developer, and our IT staff, with deployment of the application into our production environment.
Participate in performing functional testing of the overall application.

As you can see from our description, we are expecting and requiring specific skills and experience from you. Please provide examples of your work relevant to our requirements, and be prepared to discuss your work further if we interview you.
